Empty seat

I just made a new friend! I ate lunch at the Farmer’s Market on campus with my friend Perry. I got the yellow curry chicken from J. Wok, which is one of my favorites along with the the pad thai. We ate at the benches near the library until around 2:20pm, when Perry had to leave for an appointment. As he got up and left, a wandering female sat down next to me on the bench. I was surprised that she sat down at a space so physically close to a stranger. I’m not sure if I would have had the courage to do so. Feeling in a particularly talkative mood, I asked her what she was eating (it was a gyro). We then began talking about the Farmer’s market, our favorite foods, classes we were taking, studying abroad, French, and our overlapping majors of Business. We then talked about rushing for a business fraternity. We talked about Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi. I had originally planned on attending today’s rush event for DSP, but my friend didn’t want to go, so I skipped it. Surprisingly, the girl was also interested in rushing DSP, so we seriously considered pledging. We set out the events we could attend together, which include the Woodstock’s social this Friday, the Professional Event on Tuesday, and the Meet the Chapter event on Thursday. I was genuinely happy to have bonded with a stranger that I had randomly met by chance, and to have made a new friend. Upon parting ways, I learned that her name was Fernanda.
